- I know of two free, cooperatively developed, and popular operating
- systems (FreeBSD and Linux) that are already shipping. Yet another
- free operating system (the Hurd) ought to be released soon and will
- almost certainly be popular as soon as it comes out. There are
- others, for that matter, that are slightly less popular.

- If you want to do work on a free OS, you might find that working on
- one of those existing projects is more productive than starting a new
- project of your own.
